On finding the maximum edge biclique in a bipartite graph: a subspace clustering approach

چکیده
Bipartite graphs have been proven useful in modeling a wide range of relationship networks. Finding the maximum edge biclique within a bipartite graph is a well-known problem in graph theory and data mining, with numerous realworld applications across different domains. We propose a probabilistic algorithm for finding the maximum edge biclique using a Monte Carlo subspace clustering approach. Extensive experimentation with both artificial and real-world datasets shows that the algorithm is significantly better than the state-of-the-art technique. We prove that there are solid theoretical reasons for the algorithm’s efficacy that manifest in a polynomial complexity of time and space. The maximum edge biclique problem is NP-complete
We prove that the maximum edge biclique problem in bipartite graphs is NP-complete. A biclique in a bipartite graph is a vertex induced subgraph which is complete. The problem of finding a biclique with a maximum number of vertices is known to be solvable in polynomial time but the complexity of finding a biclique with a maximum number of edges was still undecided.

A clique of a graph G is a set of pairwise adjacent nodes of G. Similarly, a biclique(U, V ) of a bipartite graph G is a pair of disjoint, independent vertex sets such that eachnode in U is adjacent to every node in V in G. We consider the problems of identifyingthe maximum clique of a graph, known as the maximum clique problem, and identifyingthe biclique (U, V ) of a bipartite...
متن کاملOn the maximum edge biclique packing problem: formulations and computational experiments
A biclique is a complete bipartite graph. Given a (L,R)-bipartite graph G = (V,E) and a positive integer k, the maximum edge biclique packing (mebp) problem consists in finding a set of at most k bicliques, subgraphs of G, such that the bicliques are vertex disjoint with respect to a subset S ⊆ V and the number of edges inside the bicliques is maximized. The maximum edge biclique (meb) problem ...
متن کاملA continuous characterization of the maximum-edge biclique problem
The problem of finding large complete subgraphs in bipartite graphs (that is, bicliques) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem referred to as the maximum-edge biclique problem (MBP), and has many applications, e.g., in web community discovery, biological data analysis and text mining. In this paper, we present a new continuous characterization for MBP. Given a bipartite graphG, we ...
